let’s slow down.
The Custom Portrait Experience
My custom family portrait sessions are just as they sound — completely customized and tailored to you and your children. Together we’ll choose a location around the Knoxville area and plan the details for your session. What do your children like to do? Where would you like to explore? Or would you rather capture everyday moments at home? How do you want to remember this season of life? These are questions to think about while planning your session.
After your session, I’ll deliver a gallery of proofs for you to select your favorite images from. Each photo you choose will then be hand-edited by me, and delivered as high-resolution digital files.
I offer two different collections, depending on how many photos you would like in your final edited gallery. Additional images may also be purchased à la carte.

No, I shoot on-location in Knoxville. There are several parks and outdoor locations that I can suggest for your portrait session, depending on what you’re looking for. I can also come to your home! If you have a particular location in mind, we can discuss that as well. Travel fees may apply if outside of Knoxville.
*I also have special locations available at particular times throughout the year. Inquire about what’s coming up!

The clothing you wear really can impact the feel of your photos. But that doesn’t mean you have to wear anything fancy! Seriously, you can wear a simple, solid T-shirt if that’s what you’re comfortable in. In my photography, color is what makes all the difference. Depending on the season and location of your session, I can suggest several different colors and shades to wear.
In general, stay away from:
multiple bold/distracting patterns
clothing with words or large logos
bright neon colors
lots of black or stark white
clothing you have to adjust often or that’s uncomfortable
everyone wearing the same color
*You’ll find more detailed info in my style guide after you book your session!

I will keep an eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to our session. If we’re unable to shoot due to rain or lack of good lighting, we can reschedule for another date.

There’s not a fixed time limit for sessions; I simply shoot until I have what we need. That being said, most photography sessions last around 45 minutes, give or take. We may need 15 minutes more or less than that, depending on different circumstances.
*Newborn sessions are longer, and usually last an hour or more.

On one hand, you may worry that your child will be too reserved or won’t participate. On the other hand, you may worry that your child has too much energy to stand still for a photo.
While I totally understand these concerns, please don’t stress! I have a lot of experience with children of all ages — neurotypical and neurodivergent.
Sometimes we just have to be patient and allow time for them to warm up. That is perfectly okay. And while it may seem like kids need to stay calm and still to get good photos of them, that is hardly ever the case!
The best way to get great photos of your children is to simply let them be themselves. I like to keep child and family portrait sessions as relaxed and low pressure as possible. Patience and flexibility are key! And of course, snacks.
